The Batrimony is real in Cat-Tales

A message from Chris Dee 

In 2001, DC Comics took Catwoman in a direction I declined to accept, and I began Cat-Tales, a series that took the relationship between Batman and Catwoman, and between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle where DC never had and seemingly never would.  Bruce revealed his identity (DC got around to that a few years later) and they become lovers (DC got around to that a few years later too) and after many adventures and many twists and turns, Bruce eventually proposed.  (DC got around to... okay, you know that.)

By now it is no secret that the New York Times spoiled the events of Batman 50 and they aren't what we were led to expect.  It’s up to you and your opinion of Tom King if you consider it a promise broken or choose to believe reassurances in past arcs.  I can’t tell you what to do on that score.  What I can tell you is this:

I’ve been writing Cat-Tales for 17 years, 73 complete stories collected into 6 books and counting, probably over a million words and I never broke faith with my readers. I’ve never set them/you up for disappointment. You can feel safe getting invested in this universe and know I’m not going to hurt you.  I invite you to try the series and have a few recommendations below for those impatient for a WEDDING who don't want to read everything from the very beginning.

This site is new as an entry point for newcomers.  It will get fancier and more complete as time goes on.  For now, I wanted to get it out there and let you all get started.

Welcome to Cat-Tales - Different paths to get started

 

Option 1: The Detective leaves no piece of evidence unexamined

Read 'em all, obviously.  Start with Cat-Tales #1, progress to 2.   You'll find the early stories to be shorter, perhaps more "fan ficcy" or at least of a lighter tone.  These are the early days of a romance: fun, light, a bit of a screwball comedy or musical comedy universe.  It's also been likened to Harry Potter with the first books setting a tone that is not at all representative of what's to come.  While it wasn't intentional, it's not an unfair assessment.  (I'll also be the first to say the early stories aren't as well-written as the later ones.  Yes! It's true.  I got to be a better writer after doing it for 17 years.  It would be pretty damn disturbing if I didn't, wouldn't it?)

 

 

Option 2: Can we speed this up just a tad?

We can! My personal list of must-reads from Books 1 to 3:

The ramp-up to the proposal begins in Cat-Tale # 64: Comedy of Errors (midway through Book 6).  Go there, read on. 

 

Option 5: Really not an option, I do not recommend this...

Bruce and Selina's march down the aisle begins in Cat-Tales 73: The Engagement Party and the wedding itself will occur in Cat-Tales 75: Ever Fixed which dropped its first chapter November 29.  This is not the point to enter the series.  There is too much history you won't know, too much about the characters, several original characters, and deviations from what I'll charitably call DC Comics view of the world.  Imagine you knew only the Hans Christian Andersen version of The Little Mermaid and came in for the last 2 minutes of the Disney movie.  Don't.
